Adam Vinatieri Named Kicker Of Decade By USA Today
January 20th 2010 19:00
Adam Vinatieri was named USA Today Kicker of the Decade or (2000’s) this week. Vinatieri is fully deserving recipient of this award for all that he did for the Super Bowl winning Patriots teams. Honestly if it wasn’t for him, the Pats wouldn’t have won that first Superbowl against the Rams, because I don’t see anybody making those kicks in a blizzard (yes, I call it a blizzard. Close enough and it sounds better..) against the Raiders to get us there other than Vinatieri on that magical night.
As a young 26 year old who was still in the elementary stages of learning how to handle his alcohol like a man back then, I can honestly say that I have never had more fun in my local establishment than I had the night of that Raiders/Brady Tuck Rule contest. My God! I digress..lets get back to Vinatieri.
You could argue that the Pats might not have gotten to or won that second one against Carolina either if it wasn’t for some great kicking by #4. Vinatieri has 42 postseason field goals in his career, an NFL record, and is truly the most clutch kicker I’ve ever seen play the game. Kudos to the distant third cousin of Evil Knievel, Adam Vinatieri. Tom Brady should send you a new Rolex every Christmas. If it wasn't for you, his legendary status would be a notch below where it currently stands.
