All Eyes On Atlanta’s Jason Heyward As He Makes MLB Debut With Braves
April 1st 2010 13:00
Don’t sleep on the fact that your cable carrier provides most of you with TBS when you want to watch a little baseball outside of Tito’s kids from the Fens this spring and summer. If you do, you’ll be missing out on seeing the ‘J-Hey Kid’ patrolling right field for the Atlanta Braves in this upcoming 2010 season.
Jason Heyward is only 20 years old and is the #1 ranked prospect in baseball. He was selected 14th overall by the Atlanta Braves in 2007. He is 6’4” and tips the scales at 245 pounds. Trust me, those pounds aren’t Prince Fielder type pounds. This kid is built like a brick shithouse.
After hitting .366 with a homer and five steaks this spring, Bobby Cox named him the Braves opening day right fielder. The J-Hey Kid hits from the left side but actually punishes left handed pitching more than right handed pitching, which is an extreme rarity. Heyward hit .339 in 112 ABs vs. LHP in 2009; .316 vs. RHP. In his career, he's hit lefties at a .335 clip, righties at .313.
A few quotes from his Braves teammates:
"He looks like a major-league ballplayer already," Braves catcher Brian McCann says. "And his talent is something special. I think he's ready. I've never seen a kid this good.
"He possesses some things I've never seen in someone who is 19 or 20 years old. He's hitting the ball out 400 feet to left center (the opposite field)."
"I couldn't be more impressed," Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones said. "Look out Atlanta. He's going to wow you."

I can remember Chipper coming into the league with the Braves--- at a slightly younger age than Heyward---in a very similar position as the next best thing. He’s had a great career in Atlanta. Will Heyward?
The ‘J-Hey Kid’ era begins next week when the Braves take on the Cubs at Turner Field.
