March 2nd
Babe Ruth signed a 3-year contract with the New York Yankees worth $70,000 a year. (1927)
Phil Esposito (Boston Bruins) became the first player in the NHL to score 100 points in a season. Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe also crossed the 100 mark during the same season. (1969)
The Indianapolis Colts signed Peyton Manning to a seven-year, $98 million deal with a $34.5 million signing bonus. It was the largest package to date in the NFL. (2004)
Happy Birthday to the following people. If any of you are dead now & I missed the news, I apologize. I'm trying to be nice here...
Happy 48th to former Oakland A's catcher, Terry Steinbach. Thanks for all the beatings when you and the juiced bash brothers beat the bag out of the Sox back in the day.
Happy 28th to Steelers QB, Ben Roethlisberger. Stay off of your motorcycle.
Happy 25th to Saints RB, Reggie Bush. Tell Kimmy K I said 'what up'.
& for my non-sports birthday wish of the day...
Happy 25th to Robert Iller, aka AJ Soprano from 'The Sopranos'. Goddamn it, I miss that show. Hopefully you guys are gearing up for the big screen soon. I can't imagine many people are knocking down your door for other acting opportunites, so I'm guessing you'd be available for a blockbuster Sopranos flick.
Chuck
