Bill Belichick Tells UMass Women’s Lacrosse Player That He Gave Up Cake For Lent
March 30th 2010 13:00
Apparently, Amanda Belichick (daughter of Bill) is a first-year assistant on the UMass women's lacrosse team.
(From the NY Times )
Bill Belichick attended UMass’s home-opening victory over Holy Cross. Afterward, the Minutewomen celebrated the 12th birthday of a girl with a brain tumor whom they had “adopted” through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Mulligan, a sophomore from Hanover, Mass., and a passionate Patriots fan, walked up to Amanda’s father.
“I was, like, shaking,” Mulligan said. “I said, ‘Do you want a piece of cake?’ And he’s like, ‘Nah, I gave it up for Lent.’ I couldn’t get anything out after that.”
“I was, like, shaking,” Mulligan said. “I said, ‘Do you want a piece of cake?’ And he’s like, ‘Nah, I gave it up for Lent.’ I couldn’t get anything out after that.”
Now there’s the Darth Vader we all know and love. A nervous college sophomore who says she “freaks out” when she sees him and acknowledges him as the “biggest celebrity in her life”---approaches D.V. and asks him if he wants a piece of cake. D.V. comes back with, “nah, I gave it up for Lent” and just shoots her a blank stare like she’s effin Eric Mangini.
Nice tact, Bill. You’re like this chick’s hero. You can’t be a little friendlier and man-up to scarf down a small piece of the cake she made for this sick kid? Let’s cut through the bullshit, coach. You didn’t give up cake for Lent. You gave up signing or trading for any free agents of substance & high end ability. Anquan Boldin ain’t walkin through that door, but here comes Algie Crumpler & David Patten on their walkers five plus years past their primes! In the words of Pete ‘The Poodle’ Carroll… “I’m jacked and pumped!”
(Sorry coach, the opportunity was there and I took it. I still love your miserable, boring ass and I’m praying you have something extremely innovative and exciting up your sleeve during draft time. In D.V. I still trust. Just eat the cake next time and tell the girl who idolizes you that she’s a good little player. Even if she isn’t.)
