Bill Parcells Says His Biggest Regret Of Coaching Career Was Leaving Patriots
February 2nd 2010 14:00
During an online chat on NFL.com ,Bill Parcells was asked to divulge the greatest regret of his coaching career. He answered: "Probably having to leave the New England Patriots."
Bill Parcells and Drew Bledsoe brought football back to New England when they arrived on the scene in Foxboro. The buzz was undeniable. Their arrival breathed new life into a franchise that needed some serious CPR and a team that was widely considered the L.A. Clippers of football.
In the end, the gigantic egos of Parcells and Patriots owner, Bob Kraft, could not co-exist.
The rest is history. Pete 'The Poodle' Carroll came to town and Parcells headed to the Jets. However, that only set the stage for the Darth Vader 'Hoodie Dynasty Era' in New England. A young QB by the name of Tom Brady is a late round draft pick and three Super Bowl titles ensue. It's amazing how things work out sometimes. What becomes of the franchise if Parcells never leaves?
Along with putting football back on the map in New England, his WBZ 'Fifth Quarter' press conferences were 'can't miss TV.' Hats off to one of the greatest coaches in NFL history. I enjoyed every minute of your tenure, coach. Well, except for the loss to the Dezzie Howard/Brett Fav-rah led Packers in the Super Bowl on your way out. You had Curtis Martin coach, run the football!!!
