Boston Bruins Display Of No Heart On Sunday After Savard Injury Quite Despicable
March 9th 2010 13:00
Bruins GM, Peter Chiarelli, took a lot of heat for not doing anything at the trade deadline to improve this hockey club. Maybe he knew something we didn't. Maybe he realized that the collection of hockey players that he has assembled here in Boston were going nowhere, regardless of adding a player of actual value. When you realize that the collection of hockey players that you've assembled, have no spine, it's tough to rectify without major overhaul.
Let me explain.
No heart is an understatement when describing what happened on Sunday when the Bruins best player got leveled and knocked unconscious, in what was a vicious hit by Penguin, Matt Cooke. It was like watching your best friend or your brother get sucker punched and you just watch and don't ever retaliate. It was disgusting. Marc Savard laying on the ice with a Grade 2 concussion and his teammates standing around whistling in the wheat field with the Penguin players and talking about how they can't wait to see Erin Andrews on Dancing With The Stars.
Marc Savard has retaliated so many times for his teammates. Many players of Savard's status and ability can't say that they've done the same. Notorious thug, Sean Avery, took a cheap shot at Savard's teammate, Milan Lucic, when the Bruins were playing Dallas recently. Who was jumping on Avery's back like a madman coming to the aide of his teammate? Does this question require an answer? OK, Savard, there's your answer.
This whole team should write a letter of apology to their teammate, Marc Savard. Then they should put the pen to some more good use by writing an apology to all of the former great Bruins who possessed character, toughness, heart, and grit. Players like Cam Neely & Terry O'Reilly. Players who have epitomized what it means to put on the Black & Gold sweater. Neely is currently a part of the Bruins front office. He must be ashamed. Not having enough talent to win on a consistent basis is one thing. Not having the backs of your teammates is quite another.
