Cal Ripken Says His Brother Billy Most Likely Regrets The FF Bat
February 17th 2010 17:00
Cal Ripken was on The Dan Patrick Show and had many things to say on steroids and other topics of interest. The one that caught me was the comment he made on his brother Billy regretting the famous ‘FF’ baseball card…. Check it out…
Ripken had some interesting comments on his brother Billy. He said basically Billy did a lot of the fun things that he didn't. Although he thinks Billy probably regrets his infamous "FF" bat on that baseball card.
First off, why would Billy Ripken regret this happening? As one of the commenter’s wrote on the Dan Patrick post about this, ‘that’s the highlight of his career.’ It put Billy on the map. Yeah, so you’re most known by the public for being the victim of a prank for the rest of your life. Remember Billy, no pub is bad pub.
Man, I remember buying packs of Fleer cards like a mad man in search of the famous Billy Ripken ‘FF’ card, (pic at top of this post with FF blacked out on butt end of bat) when I was a kid. Nobody bought Fleer either. Topps was king in the heyday of my youth. Fleer was for dipshits. Kind of like O-Pee-Chee. But there was nothing cooler at the time than finding an ‘error card’ like that Ripken masterpiece. They were worth a mint! At least that’s what my trusty Beckett Baseball Card Monthly mag used to tell me. Fleer made a lot of money that summer. Unfortunately, most times the card was already blacked out. So like a smoker hooked on nicotine, young kids would head back to the corner store to buy more til they got their fix. Brilliant marketing by Fleer! ‘Keep chasing you pack of little shits!’
Since I try to be a classy man of the people on this site(operative word there being ‘try’), I only posted the blacked out card at the top of the post. To see the un-edited version of the card, click HERE .
