Cavaliers Putting LeBron On Rondo Could Backfire & Wake Up The Truth
May 11th 2010 13:15
So King James wants to man-up on Rajon Rondo in Game 5 of this Celtics/Cavs series?
Now Cavs coach, Mike Brown, is going to give him a shot to do it?
Paul Pierce must be absolutely salivating right now. Are you kidding me? James has completely taken Pierce out of this series and now he and Brown think that the answer is putting LBJ on Rondo?
First off, LBJ is a fantastic defensive basketball player---of that there is no doubt. He has put his mind to being a top flight defender in this league and now he is in that elite category. That being said, he is not quick enough to stop Rondo. He’s extremely quick for his size, but not quick enough to take Rondo out of the game as an offensive weapon. Will he defend more effectively than Mo Williams? Absolutely, but not enough to warrant this change. Not to mention, do you really want this guy chasing Rondo through picks all night and running around like a mad man to keep up with him, when you need so much out of James on a nightly basis if you're Cleveland?
This move (if it happens for a prolonged period during the game) will most likely make no difference one way or the other for Cleveland. Pick your poison. I actually think it potentially hurts Cleveland more than it helps, due to the fact that it very well could awaken a sleeping giant in ‘The Truth.’
Is that what the Cleveland coaching staff really wants to do as this series enters the latter stages? “Oh, but if Pierce just starts lighting it up without King James on him defensively, we’ll just switch back?” Easier said then done, people. Once Pierce has his confidence and swagger back he’s capable of anything. I don’t care who’s guarding him. I don’t care how old he is now. James has taken that swagger away from Pierce thus far in this series. Why mess with that feat at this juncture?
On the other hand, Pierce---I’m sure---would love to see Anthony Parker lining up on D against him tonight.
Wouldn’t that be just lovely, Cap?
I agree. Lovely indeed.
