SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) - A California high school girl's softball coach has apologized for requiring eight players who struck out during a recent game to drink soda pop out of a team member's shoe, a school district official said.
The South Tahoe High School varsity players drank the soda at a team slumber party on May 1, hours after a game against Wooster High School of Reno, Nev.
"It was meant as a joke, and obviously it went too far," Lake Tahoe Unified School District superintendent James Tarwater said.
A parent complained about the incident and coach Anneliese Neitling has since apologized, Tarwater said. It was a young coach's mistake and the matter will be addressed during Neitling's postseason evaluation, he said.

Dear Mr. or Mrs. ‘Complaining’ Parent,
I think the more important question to be asked in this here situation should be directed toward your daughter and her teammates. Something like, “If Coach Neitling told you to take all your clothes off and go sit in the auditorium and wait for all the dirty ole man teachers of South Tahoe High School to come in and peruse the situation, would you do it?”
Actually, shit, hold on, with this crew who knows? They might have actually done that too. “Whatever Coach says, goes!”
Isn’t it obvious here that Coach Neitling was more than slightly pissed off at all the strikeouts and thought to herself, “man, I know I have a weird little crew of freaks here at my disposal on this 2010 team, let’s see if they’ll go for this one…YOU’RE PUNISHED! NOW GO DRINK DR. PEPPER OUT OF MARY’S SHOE TONIGHT AT YOUR SLUMBER PARTY!”
For Christ sake, she didn’t really think they’d go and do it.
