Did I Read It Wrong Or Did Chris Weesling Say That Jabar Gaffney Is Primed To Break Out In 2010?
August 26th 2010 13:00
Was checking out Chris Weesling's "20 NFL Players on the rise & on the decline" and I noticed ex-Patriots wideout, Jabar Gaffney, on the list.
Was he on the list of declining players?
Negative.
He was, in Weesling's book, "on the rise" and on the verge of "breaking out."
Huh?
Let me tell you something about Jabar Gaffney. He's a fine wide receiver who can help your team in many ways. He's also 30 years old and entering his 9th NFL season, WITHOUT Brandon Marshall running alongside as his daddy in Denver.
Who does he have in Denver for support, you ask?
An ancient, Brandon Stokley.
A rookie with "potential" in Demaryius Thomas.
An inconsistent---thus far---Eddie Royal.
I mean, at least John Elway is slingin' the pigskin for them----- oh wait----- it's Kyle Orton [sigh], my fault. Strike that thought.
With all that solid support, are you foaming at the mouth yet for that "breakout" year out of Gaffney? Not to mention, you can't "breakout" after eight goddamn full seasons in the NFL.
Come on Chris. It was a great article and I agree on a lot of your selections. I think Matthew Stafford is going to be a bona fide star in this league for quite some time, as do you. I think Raiders TE, Zach Miller, is one hell of a young player, "on the rise."
That said, backup Broncos QB, Timmy Tebow---after getting popped in his mouth and knocked almost unconscious---has a better chance of seeing Christ shooting the shit and breaking bread with his disciples on the 50 yard line than Jabar Gaffney does of becoming a breakout NFL WR "on the rise" in 2010.
Gaffney is what he is at this point. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Oh, and Santonio Holmes of the NYJ's is far from "on the decline", but that's a different argument for a different day, my friend. And I hate the NYJ's, Tommy Brady style, but what's right is right.
