EA Sports Sticks With Tiger Woods Cuz He Puts The Asses In The Seats
January 22nd 2010 16:30
(From Sports Biz With Darren Rovell as he interviews EA Sports President Peter Moore on the decision to stick with Tiger Woods as his EA Sports golf lead endorser. )
Moore: This guy, since we signed him to be the lead for our golf products, has won 56 PGA Tour events and we still see him obviously as the world’s greatest golfer and continue to stand by him as such.
We talk to our customers every single day. We take their pulse about a lot of things and in particular, obviously, when there are situations like this in the news. We want to know how they think.
Rovell: According to NPD Group, Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’10 sold 191,000 copies each month, while the ’09 game sold about 196,000 each month.
OK, let me cut through this pile of steaming PR bullshit from Mr. Moore of EA Sports for you.
Bottom line is this: Tiger Woods puts the ‘gamer’ asses in the seats. Mr. Moore might ‘take the pulse of his customer base’ and act like he sympathizes with the public masses and their collective issues with Tiger’s transgressions, but he’s not changing a damn thing. Honestly, I don’t blame him one bit.
Tiger could ‘relapse’ and go on a massive spree of fornication to the highest degree when he gets out of sex rehab but if he’s still selling 191,000 copies a month of his video game, it’s all effin good!
EA Sports…Padraig Harrington PGA ‘11 = No asses in the seats.
EA Sports…Sergio Garcia PGA ’11 = No asses in the seats.
EA Sports…Phil Mickelson PGA ’11 = A few more asses in the seats.
EA Sports…Tiger Woods PGA ’11 = Millions of asses in the seats!
Nuff said!

If you have a video game that celebrates Tigger's accomplishments, what is wrong with adding more facets to the game to better represent the Wood-man? This isn't anything that need be new either. Just revitalize some great ideas from the past.
Leisure Suit Larry Video Game
Or let's not forget
Beat 'em and Eat 'em or Custer's Revenge (Atari 2600)
I don't want to hear anything from the PC-police either regarding this suggestion. The violence and brutality in most video games now far overshadows any proposed presentation of Eldrick and his putter butter.

I can pop in Grand Theft Auto and kill a few people, then head to a strip joint for a virtual lapdance. (not a joke).. I suppose giving Tiger some virtual love after he dominates Pebble Beach isn't that bad of an idea.
Kudos!
