According to Peter Gammons on NESN, the Red Sox and Jason Bay had agreed on the framework of a four-year, $60 million deal in July before an MRI raised concerns about both of the outfielder’s knees. As a result of those concerns, Gammons said, Sox ownership reduced its offer from four years to two.

My father ran into ole ‘Walpole Joe’ Morgan down at Costco’s in Dedham around Christmas time and of course he couldn’t resist engaging the old Sox manager and asking him what he thought of the Bay situation.
Now, Joe’s getting up there in age, but he’s apparently still in the loop on things Red Sox & I have to give him a solid ‘A’ grade on this one. Walpole Joe told the ole man that the Sox “know something we don’t” and that he was pretty sure it was the fact that the Sox were concerned about Bay’s knees.
Hey Theo, maybe you want to think about tightening up the security as well as the lips of the people working in your bunker in the basement of Yawkey Way. There’s obviously a leak somewhere if Walpole Joe’s filling in my ole man on this situation while both of them are in the pastry section at Costco’s!
Dad, next time you run into your buddy at Costco’s, tell him ‘not bad’ on this whole scoop on Bay….Give him a little ‘Six-Two-& Even’ salute and maybe pick up the tab on his bulk package of toilet paper in exchange for the scoop he gave you! Impressive, Walpole Joe. Very impressive.
