Halladay To Philly Or L.A. Equals ‘Lights Out’ To Rest Of N.L.

Was watching my boys on the Bar Room Blitz in Phillie Country this week and I actually heard my cousin Doug Shaw say on the show, “why do they even need him?”, when referring to the possibility of the Phillies trading for Doc Halladay. Huh? Wake up Shaw... wake up! I hope he was just giving the other guys on the panel the business since my man Shaw is a Mets fan and the rest of the guys on the panel are Phillies fans but I’m pretty sure he wasn’t kidding this time. Then again, you never know with Shaw, since he’s hardly ever serious about much of anything!
Cole Hamels (5-5, 4.72) in 18 starts this year has had a lackluster year so far but will undoubtedly by ready come October. He is a true ace and big game young pitcher and he proved that last year as he led the Phillies to the World Series Title. Right now Philly would be riding Hamels and J.A. Happ (who has been outstanding, but is in his first full year and most likely pitching over his head) into the postseason as their number one and two starters respectively. Jamie Moyer is 71 years old and quite honestly can not be trusted if you ask me, come October ’09. He and Joe Blanton have been ‘so-so’ and have high end ERA’s so far this year. Are you trusting J.A. Happ to be Hamels’ wing-man in October? Has he earned that type of respectability already? How bout switching it up and having Doc Halladay become Hamels’ wing-man? Would you trade Happ as part of a package to get Halladay? Carlos Carrasco, who's making a big start tonight for Philly Triple A squad? I wouldn’t hesitate, if Toronto likes them. Wow. Who beats Philly with those two at the top of the rotation in October? Rollins, Utley, Howard, Raul ‘I’ll kick your bleepin ass if you suspect me of steroid use’ Ibanez, to go along with a one/two of Doc and Cole? Pretty tough to beat, even if you’re the Yankees or Red Sox.
How about this though…. How about Doc becoming a Dodger? Think Man-Ram will welcome good ole Doc to his playpen in the Hollywood Hills baby? Think about those crazy bastard fraud fans out in LA… You’d have middle aged overweight white guys coming to games either dressed in one of Manny’s dreadlock wigs or you’d have dinks dressed in Halladay jerseys with stethoscopes around their necks in honor of the Doc. Free bong hits for all behind the sushi stand! Big Doc and Chad Billingsley as a nasty one/two punch with a little Clayton Kershaw sliding in as your third starter. Nasty. Man-Ram, Kemp and Ethier leading the offense and Halladay, Billingsley, Kershaw as your Big 3 starters. Tough to beat.
Out of those two teams, who does he make more of a contender to win it all? That would be Philadelphia. I’m sorry but I’m a guy that likes players who have been there, done that, and Hamels has done it in 2008. I give the edge to Philadelphia over LA because you have a guy who pitched dominantly in the postseason in Hamels to go with Doc, whereas Billinglsley was 1-2 with a 8.49 ERA last year for LA in October. Of course, my loyalties lie with my Red Sox (even though I try to be non-biased when I write, which annoys some Sox fans sometimes…ha) and at the end of the day, as long as he’s kept out of the pinstripes, I really don’t give a rat’s ass where he ends up!
