In honor of the Bruins currently dominating the Flyers in the Eastern Conference semi-finals , I pulled a Bruin oldie but goodie off the shelf----Craig Janney.
Drafted 13th overall by the Bruins during ‘the year Buckner happened’ (1986), Janney paid immediate dividends for the B’s. He joined the team late in ’87-’88 and scored 7 goals and had 9 assists in just 15 games. He added 6-10-16 totals in the playoffs that year as the Bruins got all the way to the Cup Finals. As we know, they lost to the Oilers.
Before arriving in Beantown, C.J. played two years at Boston College and then left school to join the U.S. National Team.
His best statistical year in Boston was in 1990-91 when he put up 26-66-92 numbers. Janney put up some great totals in his career as a Bruin. In 262 games he put the biscuit in the basket 85 times and helped put the biscuit in the basket 198 times. That’s 283 points in 262 career games as a Bruin (regular season games only). Not too shabby.
C.J. was shipped out of here with Stephane Quintal halfway through the ’91-’92 campaign. Who was he traded for? The great center from the St. Louis Blues, Adam Oates. No disrespect meant at all here, but when Oates came to town Janney was quickly forgotten. God, those were some great seasons to watch when Oatsie and Cam Neely were clicking.
After his 4 year stint in St.Louis, Janney had short stints in Phoenix, Winnipeg, Tampa & New York and finished his career with 751 points in 760 regular season games. Hell of a career.
