Hey Beantown Chowdaheads...It's Greg Harris...Remember Me??
April 2nd 2010 13:00
The only 20th century pitcher to throw from both sides of the mound, Greg Harris. Yeah, he did it while a member of the Montreal Expos in 1995 because Boston was “too conservative” to let him try it while he was a member of the Red Sox. He was a right handed reliever who could also throw lefty. When Montreal let him do it, he walked Hal Morris and then induced a ground out to Eddie Taubensee.
Harris was a solid pitcher here in Boston between 1989 & ’94. He was a starter at the beginning of his tenure here and then was primarily used out of the pen in his last two seasons. You could frequently find Greg on the green line taking public transportation to Fenway. If anyone could fit right in with public masses on the train/trolley, it was Harris. Dude didn’t exactly exude “that must be a pro athlete” physical traits.
I would say that the year he made the most impact in Boston was in 1992. He logged 107 innings out of the pen and finished with a 2.51 ERA, but he was a damn good pitcher for most of his tenure here in Beantown.
So what have you been up to Greg? Shoot me an e-mail at the site and let me know. Smitty & I would love to take you for a brewski or three.
(Check out Harris’ stats on Baseball Reference)
