Hey Beantown Chowdaheads...It's Nick Esasky...Remember Me??
May 21st 2010 13:00
Nicholas Andrew Esasky…..Come on down! You’re the next contestant on, ‘Hey You Bleepin' Beantown Chowdaheads…Remember Me?”
Esasky was a certified Beantown Badass when he arrived on the scene in 1989. Who did we trade to get him, you ask? That would be former ‘Chowdaheads…Remember Me’ honoree, Todd Benzinger!
You see, good ole Nicky came here and had the best year of his career in ’89. He hit .277 with 30 dingers and had 108 steaks, but then he got a little greedy. He took off via free agency and signed with the Atlanta Braves for $5.6 mil over three years. Not bad cake considering it was 21 years ago now and the average salary was $578,930 in 1990. Guess what it is now? It’s $3.34 million.
The Atlanta signing didn’t really work out. It was sort of like hitting the Black Diamond at Loon Mountain, strapping on a set of skis, sticking your head between your legs and kissing your ass goodbye as you absolutely MOTOR down the mountain with skis straight as an arrow.
He played nine games in Atlanta and developed vertigo.
Career over.
So what have you been up to Nicky-E? Shoot me an e-mail at the site. Smitty and I would love to take you for a brewski or three.
(Check out the rest of Esasky’s numbers at Baseball Reference )
