In Honor Of Sheed Wallace’s “Ball Don’t Lie”…I Give You TCFB’s “Stats Don’t Lie”…MLB Edition

Take a look at the numbers below…..

.324 avg/ 38 doubles/ 24 HR/ 95 RBI/ .960 OPS

.238 avg/ 30 doubles/ 21 HR/ 93 RBI/ .788 OPS

What if I told you that the two players who’s numbers are combined on line one are making a combined $18. 4 million this year…. & the two players on line two are making a combined $53.6 million this year?

The numbers on line one are the combined numbers of Red Sox first baseman, Kevin Youkilis & third baseman, Adrian (hitting dingers from my knees like it ain’t no thang) Beltre. The numbers on line two are the combined numbers of Yankees first baseman, Mark Teixeira & third baseman, Alex Rodriguez.

A loyal TCFB reader told me earlier in the week that it would be cool to run a comparison between the two and that the discrepancy would be substantial.

I crunched the numbers.

He was right.

Good work, boss.

my fav Youk story is how he got pissed at Dennis & Callahan & won't come on their show b/c they said on the air that he "married up".. My take: "Mirrors don't lie, Youk".. Deal with it. Laugh at it. Embrace it.

I heard that one. How in God's name does a guy not take that as a compliment?

It reminds me I forgot to post a follow up to my Rick fox interjection on your GLOAT blog. Like there are some dudes like him that are just so good looking all I want to do is press their face in a hot waffle iron to level the playing field a bit. If a dude gets that much into how pretty his is well then...

It's just gay right?

I think Youk just got a little tired of being called Enza's "rebound" man, after Benny Affleck and her split up. Bruised ego = senstive man & then the whole "marrying up" comment sent him over the edge. He combusted. He's now probably a little embarassed and if he could do it over, he'd man up, take it as a compliment and get on D&C..even if it was just to bust balls and say, "hey aren't you all the nice fellas who compared a young, harmless, black kid to an animal in the jungle?.. Good Day!"

Let me try and protect some Yankees players right now. The second line's stats are skewed. Why? Mark Teixeira is a second half hitter. He heats up big in the second half. Everybody knows he is a notorious early starter. Come back to me about Tex vs. Youk at the end of the year. I think you'd be crazy to take Youk over Tex when building a team. Besides, who has the better record? Oh yeah, I just asked that. Who injured Jacoby Ellsbury the best speedster and youngster on Boston? Oh yeah Beltre. Youk is great though, I think he is their best power guy. However, at seasons end I think Tex nudges him out.
