Let The Open Golf Open Your Route To Online Profits

July 23rd 2008 11:31
July 2008, and the 137th Open Golf Championship tees off at Royal Birkdale in North England, near Liverpool.
Golf is a huge market, both offline and online, and you can use The Open to grab your slice of the pie...

The Open was first played back in 1860, and is *the* tournament to win, so much so that the name The Open is enough to tell any golf fan what you are talking about.
Americans tend to call is The British Open, but the Americans call the Superbowl winners 'world champions', so we can just leave them with their quirks.
What we shouldn't do though, is leave the available profits on the table.

Golf is a big business for 2 main reasons, people love to watch, and consequently love to find information about their stars.
If you can provide information about golf, you will have the attention of targeted traffic. What you can then do is tap into the main money avenue of golf - equipment.

Every golfer wants to play better, it's the reason the game is so addictive, so it's no surprise that the equipment manufacturers constantly seek to improve the science, to make it easier to hit longer and/or more consistent shots. It's why the top players earn a fortune from endorsements, because those endorsements bring in millions to the equipment firms.

These firms are also shrewd in the world of business, and the online affiliate model has not passed them by. With this model, you send the web traffic to their site, and the software tracks it as referred by you. You have to register to do this, but it's free to do so. Then if anyone buys, you get paid a commission, maybe 10%.

That may not sound like much, but if you consider a box of 12 balls can cost $120 in some cases, that 10% can soon add up to some serious money.

Apart from equipment, there is memorabilia. This is always popular in sports, from posters to books. Most top golfers write books at some point, and then you get the market of used gear and signed golf caps and so on.

All of these will have the affiliate model available. For example, a lot of people do not know that eBay has an affiliate program, so you can direct people to memorabilia items, and earn if they go on to buy.

So you can see that golf is great for profit potential, and the 2008 hosting of The Open is as good an opportunity as any.

I love the fact that I make money by writing about sport - you can find out more about the *exact* technique I use at my site here: Make Money From Sport
