Life is full of “First Times”

May 21st 2009 19:28

Everyone remembers various “first time” events as they go through the journey we call life…. Let me share a few of mine with you.. Well, the PG rated ones anyway..

•The first time I went to school..
•The first time I rode my bike without training wheels attached… YES!..
•The first time I knew I had let my parents down by doing something stupid..

•The first time I took my parents to meet my coach and ex-Red Sox star George “The Boomer” Scott in his office at the school. Man, I was a proud kid that day, knowing how big of Sox fans my parents both are...
•The first time I felt that I might really be able to do something with the game of baseball while playing Junior College ball..
•The first time I realized a baseball career wasn’t in the cards..
•The first time it hit me how much I really do appreciate my parents..
•The first time I realized that I loved somebody so much, it scared me (yes, that’s you Michelle) ha…
•The first time I realized “wow I’m a married man now”
•The first time I walked into a bar as a married man! Man, it feels a little different fella’s...

Then came last night, with an early season Red Sox game on TV at the restaurant, I’m out to eat with my wife and the room is pretty quiet as everyone is eating and the noise was really low key. Then all of a sudden the room of people erupts and I look up to see what happened….Big Papi had gone deep for the first time in ’09! The whole room, young and old people, ugly and pretty people, were cheering like crazy. It was a sight to see…….I’ve always loved growing up in a sports town like Boston, but watching this was the first time I truly realized this really is the best sports town you could ever want to live in if you’re a sports fan. ESPECIALLY when the next time Ortiz comes up, he strikes out and one of the older, less pretty people I was referring to earlier, yells out from the bar area “ahhh there he is, back to being a bum again, whiffing like usual”… Ha!! You have to love the passion in this town- it’s incredible. People are so tuned in to all things sports and even on a low key night in May, a room can go from relatively silent and everyone eating dinner-- to crazy loud in second! Go get ‘em Papi, and don’t worry about the older, not so pretty guy heckling you from the bar area. Something tells me he was about one cognac away from forgetting you even struck out when he wakes up this morning!

I'm sitting here reminiscing with a grin on my face strolling down memory lane.

Thanks to Anonymous and Josh-

Josh, to be honest when people like us just writing about what we love and the sports we have experience playing or even the sports we're just fans of.., it's an awesome feeling especially when you get postive feedback. I've had such a blast doing this so far, thanks for your comments and support and for always checking it out.
