NFL's 'Play 60' Trying To Help Slim Down Your Chubby Checkers

( From Kevin DuPont's piece on Boston.com )
The NFL, through its “Play 60’’ initiative, specifically is out to battle childhood obesity. It wants all of us to partner in the war against girth. In one corner of the colorful, engaging “Play 60’’ webpage, it tells us that “the current generation is projected not to live longer than its parents.’’ All because our kids sit around, pound pastries, guzzle sugary drinks, update their Facebook page and IM their pals till their fingers hurt or their parents’ fuse boxes blow.
Well HOO-RAH! Honestly, is there a better league in professional sports than the NFL? Not only do they entertain the living shit out of us on Sundays, but now they want to slim down our little fatty's for us! That's what I call a 'win-win' situation if I ever did see one. No need for a Wii, we have the NFL's "Play 60" initiative!
Seriously, this is a really cool initiative that the NFL has created. I'm not here to argue that point. What I'm here to argue is this---how did it get to this point? If parents would set some goddamn limits on how long these little chubbers can play their X-Boxes or there PS3's, we wouldn't have this child obesity rate soaring through the roof right now.
Mommy TCFB is due to give birth to our first child in early August. I can guarantee you I won't need the NFL to get my kid outside and active. If I do, please come slap me around and kick me in the ass. I'll eat my crow publicly. There's still something to be said for balance in a kid's life and I intend to prove it. NFL's "Play 60" be damned!
