After decimating Everton in the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy, Arsenal football club have kept alive their quest for an unprecedented pre-season treble. Victory in the Emirates Cup and the Community Shield will see Arsenal complete a hat trick of pre-season titles. Can Arsenal achieve this unforeseen task? The game against Everton certainly suggests so.
The game against Everton showed us some key areas where Arsenal has significantly improved from the last season. Starting with Theo Walcott, he is turning out to be quite a match winner as he has improved several facets of his game beyond belief. His ball movement and goal output have become as good as if not better than Arsenal’s talisman—Alexis Sanchez. He has become a smarter footballer overall and Arsenal’s dynamic midfield duo of Santi Carzola and Mesut Ozil will love threading the ball into him.
Arsenal has a perfect deputy for Theo in Giroud as he has all the qualities of an out and out striker. Also, he is finally starting to show the footballing brain that the management and fans of Montpellier knew him for. His intelligence on the field was one of reason Arsenal bought the striker from the French club. However, it is best that Arsenal start with Theo and use Giroud as an impact sub.
As the game goes on, Giroud seems to get tired and is often unable to make telling runs as the ball is thread into him from the midfield. On the other hand, Theo never seems to tire and looks the same whether it’s the 1st minute of the game or the 90th.Talking about Theo; I just have to mention Arsene Wenger and how he handled Theo’s injury.
After spending a major portion of last season on the sidelines, Theo was bound to be rusty. However, to everyone’s surprise including myself, Theo is showing no sign of rustiness and the credit for this completely goes to the Arsenal manager: Arsene Wenger. Theo looks better than ever and even seems to have upped his game for the upcoming season. If you want see Arsenal live with Theo at his best, it is in your best interest to get your season tickets early as they might become unavailable before the new season kicks off.
Ozil and Carzola both displayed masterful performance against Everton and I can see them annihilating the smaller teams in the upcoming season. The physical aspect of our game still concerns me as our players often found it difficult to counter the physical presence of the big Everton players.
However, the best thing about this Arsenal team is that the abundance of flair in the team can easily make up for the lack of physicality. You should book your tickets for the Emirates cup if you want see Arsenal live in their quest for an unprecedented pre-season treble.
