*Is there a more polished all around young player in baseball right now than Evan Longoria (above)? Last night was just another run of the mill 3-4 game with 3 RBI which gave him 100 RBI in his first 135 games in the Bigs.. The only other two active players to get there faster were Ryan Bruan and Albert Pujols, in 118 and 131 games respectively. Not bad company to be in if you ask me. He's also a hell of a defensive third baseman who I believe will only get better and better in that regard. He came out of Long Beach St. as the top rated shortstop in the nation.
*Gee Big Papi Ortiz, are you still concerned with the "lack of protection" around you? The reigning MVP of the league hits in front of you and this beast Youkilis(above) hits behind you. Granted Youk looks like and has the physique of the cleanup hitter for your local co-ed softball team, coming up to the plate with Bud Light in his hand, but this guy is an animal. Going into yesterday's games he was hitting .469 and hitting .500 with runners in scoring position. I think Big Papi, and don't get me wrong I love Ortiz, but he should look around the league and find a better supporting cast than the one he has. He'll be looking forever, because in my opinion, there isn't one. You could make an argument for the Yankees when A-Rod is back but that's about it.
*Is there any coincidence that since Jacoby Ellsbury(above) has gotten his game going this team just wins and scores runs in bunches? This kid is the straw that stirs the drink. The same way Johnny Damon was back in the "Idiot" days. He just needs to become as consistent as Damon was, but I believe in the long run that this kid will be a better player than Johnny ever was. As he gets older he will hit for some more power and he will always be a huge threat on the bases. I still think it's hideous that he doesn't drag bunt once a game with his blazing speed, or at least "show" bunt to bring the infielders in and he'll be able to reach out and slap base hits through the drawn in infield. His speed is something that a lot of people don't have and he has to exploit it more often.
