Random ‘Two Cents’ On….. Nomar Garciaparra…Stephen Strasburg....Ben Roethlisberger & More

** Nomar Garciaparra will never be forgotten here in Beantown. Signing a one day contract with the Sox and retiring this morning as a member of the team was a fitting ending for #5. All of the other BS aside(strained relationship with media; whispers of PED’s), this man played the game the way it was meant to be played. He went all out, all the time. I’m expecting my first child this summer and when he or she comes to me and says, “Daddy, can you show me how to play baseball?”, I won’t hesitate to pull out some Nomar Garciaparra footage. For those of you who say he quit on this team back before he was traded in the 2004 season, I disagree. First off, you don’t know the whole story, nor do I. That was a nasty set of circumstances between Nomar and the team brass. I’m not content with calling someone a quitter for something that happened one time (if he wasn’t really hurt like he claimed. I believe he was hurt.) in what was otherwise an outstanding career of constant hustle and grit. The good outweighed the bad, ten fold. Good Luck, Nomar.
** I can’t imagine there being any more hype surrounding a young ballplayer than there is right now for Nationals young phenom, Steven Strasburg. It’s incredible. I wrote on Strasburg before he was drafted by Washington last year. This kid seems to legitimately be the ‘goods’. I just hope he can keep his head on straight due to all of this outrageous attention early on in his career. The Nationals are saying---regardless of performance in 2010---that he’ll remain in the minors all season. Something tells me that could change if he gets off to a dominant start.
** Correct me if I’m wrong, but if Erin Andrews’ goal is to be taken as a legitimate, credible journalist/reporter, why do you go on a reality TV show like Dancing With The Stars, during the prime of your career? Seems to me that this move is more about enhancing her ‘celebrity’ status than anything else. Not to mention that this show is for people on the way out, like Ochodinko and Pam Anderson. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll enjoy watching Erin shake what the Good Lord gave her, but I don’t really get her move here. That being said, go get em, EA. I root for all my former TCFB Femme Fatales to do well, no matter what endeavors they undertake in life.
** Regardless the outcome of this Ben Roethlisberger steaming pile of shit situation that’s taking place out in Georgia, his image is toast. Innocent or guilty doesn’t matter. I’m not a guy who says that these athletes should quarantine themselves in their homes when they want to have a good time. However, when/if alcohol turns you into a dirty panty raiding sexual predator in podunk town bar bathrooms, maybe bars/clubs aren’t for you. I’m not saying Roethlisberger raped this young lady, I’m simply saying that he can’t put himself in this type of position.
** The Arizona Cardinals traded Anquan Boldin and a 2010 5th round pick to the Ravens for a 2010 3rd and 4th. The Patriots have three 2nd round picks coming up in the draft and desperately needed help at WR. This guy is a stud that could’ve been acquired at not too steep of a price. They couldn’t have upped the ante and put up one of their #2’s along with a #4 to take the Ravens out of the picture and acquire Boldin? Bill Belichick and the Patriots dropped the ball---big time---here. Big time.
