Random Two Cents On Red Sox From TCFB Stat Man
August 20th 2010 13:00
OK, just so I'm clear. I've been getting e-mails and acosted in the streets by TCFB groupies that are asking me if I am the "Stat Man" and if that is just one of my aliases. The answer is..............NO. The Stat Man is another human being. I protect his identity so nobody steals his ass from me. Yes, it is possible that Daddy TCFB writes a post that is "stat based" but if I do, my goddamn name will be at the bottom of the post. When it says "Stat Man" though, it's not me.
Comprende? Now, enjoy his latest musings below.....
***The Red Sox have a better record since the trade deadline than the Yankees.
***Ryan Kalish: playing, Lance Berkman: not so much
***Mariners are paying $7 Million of Bill Hall’s salary this year.
***Uber-utility: Speaking of, Bill Hall has played every position except 1B & Catcher and is on pace to hit more homeruns than any Sox player with less than 350 ABs since Ted Williams hit 29 when he was 41 (stat picked up from Gordon Edes, ESPN/Boston).
***Value Over Replacement Player: "The number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances."
***Adrian Beltre has the highest VORP on the Red Sox (Youk & Papi are 2nd & 3rd, respectively).
***Run Prevention becomes Run Creation: The Red Sox lead MLB in AVR (.271), SLG (.462), OBP (.344), & OPS (only team over .800 at .806)
***They’re not Fred Lynn & Jim Rice I know, but this Kalish & Nava are the best two I’ve seen to come up from Pawtucket since the gold-dust twins.
***Nava & Kalish = Dirt Dog Twins. By that name alone, you know they arent as talented as their Gold Dust brothers, yet they give you great heart & effort with positive results.
***JD Drew is third in games played, behind Beltre & Scutaro.
***To date, the Red Sox have used forty (40) different position players during this injury-plagued year.
***Youk is on record as saying that he will make every effort to play if the Sox get to the postseason.
***Trend this:
- From (and including) the Red Sox’ 3-day sweep of the Rays beginning on May 24th, the Rays have a 33-32 record.
- The Yankees still have 28 games yet to play against the Rays, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Rangers and White Sox.
- New York has the fourth-oldest batters in MLB and the second-oldest pitching staff.
(NY stats picked up from Dayn Perry, Fox Sports)
