** How awesome was Wakfield yesterday? Great to see and luckily I had the day off so was watching it with my wife as we were out to lunch.. If he ever finished that off and did no-hit Oakland, it couldn't have happened to a better guy who seems to have done so much for the community and who is the longest tenured Red Sox. Great game. Felt like I was watching Kevin Costner in "For the Love of the Game" (semi-chick flick about baseball, maybe you've seen it, maybe not! ha)
** Kind of weird watching Nomar playing against the Sox for the first time. Also playing third base next to the guy he got traded for back in the Championship year of 04 (Orlando Cabrera). I always said, regardless of whatever anyone wants to say about that last series vs. NY in 04, when he was "milking" his injury as some put it, if I ever have a son and I'm teaching him the game I wouldn't hesitate showing him footage of Nomar and the way he played the game so goddamn hard every night and every play.. The Anti-Manny. I don't care about the rumors of steroids or him sitting out that NY series, that's all heresay. Nobody played the game harder or respected the game more than Nomar.
**Ortiz is hurt. Watching him cheat on fastballs and not sitting back and just reacting to the fastball with quickness, is a telling sign.. He's leaving himself wide open for soft stuff because he's geared up for the fastball and guessing fastball and swing out in front of the ball. I hope I'm wrong and he's just struggling early because they need his bat.
** With KG officially out for what Doc Rivers said this morning, "the whole playoff schedule" you naturally have gotta be thinking that LeBron will get to dance again! My prediction is that this team guts it out and makes it to the Conference Finals against LeBron.. Tough task at that point moving forward though. Orlando doesn't even scare me with the C's holding home court against them. Pierce, Allen and Rondo are going to raise a lot of hell and fight hard without KG. They will be a tough out.
**Puck drops tonight at 7 on what is sure to be a slugfest of a series. I know the Bruins are clearly more talented than Montreal this year at many key positions but what's better than Bruins/Canadiens in the first round? Game 6 of this series last year was the best live sporting event I've ever been to in my life.. And that's coming from a "baseball guy" first and foremost! That was the best game I've ever gone to in any sport. Go B's!
Later,
Chuck
