Smitty Wants Daddy TCFB To Buy Him Cowboys Tix For Christmas

December 1st 2009 14:38
Cowboys stadium,NFL

Last night, I called Smitty to let him know that after a week off from shooting the show, we are back on this Wednesday night for taping(he’s the cameraman for those of you who don’t know). He said ok, he’d be there, then he asked me why I couldn’t take him and the other two guys that do the TCFB Show on a road trip to a Cowboys game as a sign of gratitude for all the hard work he and they have put in on the show.

Naturally---my first question was---why a Cowboys game you old tool? He responded with, it would be cool to see the new stadium and that he was dying to check out that state of the art jumbotron, blah…..blah….blah. Then I told him that he’s only been hired as camera man since September and we’ve been doing the show since the beginning of August so he didn’t deserve much of anything from me in my opinion. From there, we exchanged insults---some of the profane variety--- and he told me he had to get back to his ‘lady’ who was giving him a full body massage the whole time we were on the phone [which sickened me]. He then asked me politely to not call him between 6-7 on Monday nights anymore since that is ‘he and his lady’s designated time together, if I knew what he meant. I knew. I wanted to puke. We hung up.

After we hung up, I’m sitting there wondering why he’d ask about going to a Cowboys game. He knows the three of us are Pats fans and as I’ve told you guys before, he’s a Giants fan. Then, as I’m flipping through the Sunday newspaper it hit me why he asked. I came upon an article in Parade Magazine by Sally Jenkins about the cost of tickets for NFL games in 2009. The average cost for a family of four to go to an NFL game is $412.64. That figure includes tickets, drinks and a couple of souvenirs at the stadium. Is that outrageous or what? Then I read a little more and I see that the average cost for a family of four to attend a Cowboys game in the new stadium is $758.58!!! It all made sense to me now. The old bastard was trying to swindle me and wanted to make me pay the most money possible and I’d expect nothing less, considering the source. I’ll get the old miserable bastard Wednesday night when I see him because I know he read the same article. We get our Sunday papers at the same store every week.

How disgusting are those numbers people? No average family can attend any of these games anymore, never mind if you’re living in Dallas and are a Cowboys fan who makes an average salary. Then I see this quote from the chief marketing officer for the NFL, Mark Waller, “those working class people who helped build the game have to be able to go to the games. We can’t ever lose sight of the fans who made us what we are.” Too late Mark, those days are long gone. It’s a shame.
