Fernando Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Dodgers became the first pitcher to win Rookie of the Year and the Cy Young award in the same season. (1981)

Roger Clemens became the third major league player to win the Cy Young Award four times, this time with the Toronto Blue Jays. (1997)

Barry Bonds became the first major league baseball player to win the leagues Most Valuable Player title five times. (2002)
