The Sad Story Of New Red Sox Reliever…Scott Schoeneweis

April 9th 2010 13:02
Scott,Schoeneweis

You know, I was watching Scott Schoeneweis come out of the ‘pen for the Red Sox in the rubber game of the Sox/Yankees series on Wednesday night and I kept thinking, “didn’t something shitty happen to this guy?”

So I dug in a little.

Yes indeed, something extremely shitty happened to this guy & it wasn’t even a year ago…See below from his Wikipedia page, for those of you who hadn’t heard…

On May 20, 2009, his wife, Gabrielle Dawn Schoeneweis, 39, was found dead on the floor of the master bedroom in their suburban Fountain Hills, Arizona home by Kiley, his wife's 14-year-old daughter from a first marriage. According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, she was unresponsive when sheriff's deputies arrived at 12:11 p.m. MST, responding to a call made by Kiley. A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office said there were no signs of foul play, and while they were not ruling anything out, they were not treating it as a homicide initially. The cause of death was determined by an autopsy to be an overdose of cocaine and the anesthetic lidocaine according to a Maricopa County appellate court. Schoeneweis and his wife had four children (ages 14, 7, 5, and 2), including his wife's daughter from a prior marriage, and had celebrated their 10th anniversary in January 2009.

Last June he said, “ I've played a long time. I think I will be OK," he said. "The family is good and it's time for Daddy to go back to work."

Even for a cold hearted bastard like me, that quote tugged on the heartstrings.

Best of luck in a Red Sox uniform, Scott. I think a lot of people will be pulling for you to do well.

Yeah, I remember reading that in a newspaper last year. It was really sad. I always feel bad for Scott because teams always release and trade him. Although I am a Yanks fan, I really want Show to do well. Great article.
