Tito Francona Must Stand By His Decision To Go With David Ortiz…For Now
April 7th 2010 15:00
As is always the case in Beantown, some fans are already treating the marathon Red Sox season as a sprint. Two games in and the Big Papi questions are starting. Here’s my take…
This should’ve been handled by Tito before the boys even headed north to begin the season. As long as Mike Lowell is on this ballclub, he should be at DH against left handed pitching. I’m fine with Ortiz facing righties, but people are missing the bigger point here when it comes to this issue. Francona made his decision and has to stand by it…for now.
Tito Francona made the decision to go with Ortiz as his full time DH as this team broke camp. No---I would not have done that---but it doesn’t matter what I would’ve done. I’m just Chuckie from the block. Tito is the manager of the Boston Red Sox. I think that Mike Lowell is a better all around hitter than David Ortiz at this point, period. I’ve said that for a while now. Lowell facing LHP as the DH is a no-brainer in my mind, but again it doesn’t matter what I think. What matters is the fact that Francona made his decision to go with Big Papi Salsa and he needs to stand by his decision for at least a month to six weeks, IMO. We’re two games into the 2010 season, people! He has to show confidence in his decision and in the player (most importantly) that he backed and decided to go with as we kick off this Patriots season. Did I say Patriots? I mean Red Sox season.
The sky isn’t falling people. I crack up when I see the overreaction in this town, but at the same time, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The constant drama in this baseball hotbed of Beantown can’t be beat. I love everything about it, including the morons lying around in their underwear calling sports radio all day spewing nonsensical venom.
