Vince Wilfork Is The New Tony Soprano Of Patriots Football…Consigliere’s Needed

(From Tom Curran’s piece on CSNNE.com )
"As players, we want to start offseason training and everybody has to be accountable," said Wilfork. "If you're on the field, you have to give me 100 percent. You have to weed out the bad seeds, point blank. Show me that I can count on you. I have no problem telling that guy [who doesn't give 100 percent] that I don't want him on the field or telling Bill [Belichick] that I don't want him on the field. We need to build that now. We need to have some accountability."
I understand it’s easy to say these things after you’ve just put your John Hancock on a $40 million contract. That being said, I love what he had to say. Loved it! Tough, direct, leadership laden verbalization from Big Vince. Somebody needed to step up and say it. I was starting to think Gisele was the toughest member of the Patriot family after giving birth in her own bathtub. I hope like hell that he stands by these comments when it’s time to strap on the pads in late summer of 2010 during training camp. It was obvious as all hell, when listening to the conference call with the press & Wilfork yesterday, that there were some serious leadership issues on this team in 2009. The losses of Brushchi, Vrabel and Harrison as vocal leaders on this team, really took its toll. Quite frankly, Wilfork sounded good and pissed off about it all yesterday.
It’s a new era of Patriot football. New leaders are welcome and encouraged to apply. Just drop your resume off at VW75’s locker and he’ll get back to you after he weeds out the frauds. He’s the newly anointed, Tony Soprano, of New England Patriots Football. Now if he can only find himself a consigliere or two like Paulie Walnuts or Silvio Dante, he will be in serious business. Richie Aprile's need not apply.
