Watch Your Step Meb---The Boston Streets Don't Belong To You
November 3rd 2009 14:07
Check this out from USA Today's Dick Patrick...
NEW YORK Meb Keflezighi has become a streak buster in the marathon. In the 2004 Olympics, his silver medal ended a 28-year U.S. drought in the event. When he won Sunday's 40th New York City Marathon, he became the first U.S. champ in the race in 27 years, since Alberto Salazar in 1982.
Keflezighi posed another question: who has won both Boston and New York? The Americans are Bill Rodgers, who won each race four times, and Salazar, who won NYC three times and Boston once. Kenyans Ibrahim Hussein, Joseph Chebet and Rodgers Rop also completed the double.
First off, Meb, watch your goddamn step. You better use your head and tread very lightly here on these thoughts of running in Beantown. Ever hear of Bob Kipkoech Cheruiyot? No, well listen up.. He wants to kick your ass right now. He will have none of this.. You see, Bob is the winner of three of the last four Boston Marathons (men's division) and he is quite pissed off right now. First off, you can't call him 'Bob', only his friends can, and I'm one of them since I hung out with him and enjoyed a few cold beers with him after his last victory. To you, it's Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot...Second off, I sent him a message via Western Union about you potentially running in Boston(yeah Meb, Bob doesn't 'text message.' He's out in the hot sun in Kenya running his balls off 30 miles per day in preparation to whip the asses of all challengers in 2010). Anyway, he told me to tell you that the streets of Beantown belong to him on that one special day and that the only time he lets anyone challenge him is when he's not feeling well on Marathon Day. He also told me to tell you that, on those days, he only allows fellow Kenyans or the occasional Ethiopian to pass him and win. He would never allow an American to beat him! Not to mention, he feels you are a fraudulent American anyway. You've been here since you were 12? He says he doesn't give a shit and that to him, all you are is Meb from Eritrea in the Horn of Africa. He doesn't acknowledge Eritreans. I think you know what you need to do here Meb, be happy with your New York City title and stay away from the mean streets of Beantown that are run by Bob Kipkoech Cheruiyot on Marathon Day. If you don't, be prepared to receive a severe ass beating by Bob.

I just hope they don't throw poop at each other during the race. There is no telling what that might do to your blood pressure.
